 We often hear that “You should Follow Your Heart”. What does it mean in reality?

In your life, you have two governing but opposing forces: your heart and your mind. While your mind is the fearful, analytical side, your heart is the wild and free one.

In our efforts to balance the things in our lives, we often follow one or the other. These opposing forces should still be balanced, regardless if you’re a head or heart follower.

We tend to follow our head because we are taught to be driven by fears and ego. Today’s society puts way less emphasis on passion, love, and spiritual purpose. Everywhere you look it’s all about money, success and reputation. But material possessions are all so fleeting.

If you choose to follow your heart, you will give in more to your instincts and intuition. You will take actions that are driven by what you love and be able to explore and follow your passions to the greatest of lengths.

Whether we talk about your professional or personal life, intuition provides you with a tool that logic and rationale cannot offer you.

Regret is tough to deal with. Whenever you are at a crossroad, follow your heart. We have already covered how your intuition works. As long as it’s not a dangerous or life threatening situation, you should try it. Go the extra mile and do the impossible. At the end of the day, it’s better to have tried and failed, than not to have tried at all. Regret is one of the worst emotions in the world and will only leave you wondering.

You will gain respect and admiration. Some of the greatest leaders have become great by listening to their hearts. If you are able to step out of your comfort zone and think outside the box, you will have won. If you follow your heart, success will become promised to you. You will find new ways to overcome obstacles and fuel your internal nudges.

It will catch up to you. Not trusting your instinct and following your gut will make you feel like there’s something missing. And by that time, you will have probably missed out on a lot of things. Face your life head on because there isn’t any other way to do it. If you don’t do it now and put it off to later, that later might become never. Take your time, breathe, but never stop listening to your inner voice.

You get clarity about who and where you are. If you manage to initiate yourself onto the path and follow your heart, you will be surprised at the overwhelming clarity that follows. You will be happier and in being so, you will be able to surround yourself with happier people. Being honest and unapologetic about yourself will place you only with beneficial situations and people.

Take a mental note to follow your heart. Assess every situation that you find yourself into and make a decision for which your present and future self will be grateful. Practice gratitude and follow your intuition more often.
