Green Tea Honeysuckle Cake

If you are big fans of matcha green tea, then you will love it when combined with honeysuckle. Its bitter flavor and pleasant green color combined with milk make this an unique recipe. Here is how you can make it:

  • ½ cup of shortening
  • 1 cup of butter, softened
  • 6 large eggs
  • ¼ cup of honey
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 3 cups of all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp of salt
  • 1 tsp of baking powder
  • ¾ cup of milk
  • 2 tsp of matcha

Honeysuckle Glaze

  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 stick of butter
  • ⅓ cup of honey
  • ⅓ cup of orange liqueur
  • 3 tablespoons of water

Green Tea Honeysuckle Cake

First of all, preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Using a heavy duty electric stand mixer, beat the butter and shortening until they are creamy. Gradually add in sugar, beating until its fluffy. Add in they honey and eggs, one at a time. Mix the flour with baking soda and salt, then add it into the butter mixture, alternating with milk. When you are done, stir in the matcha until it blends.

Secondly, pour your batter into a greased and floured Bundt pan. Bake it at a temperature of 325 degrees F for an hour and 15 minutes. When you insert a wooden pick in the center of it, it should come out clean.

To make the glaze, pour all of the ingredients from the glaze list into a saucepan over medium heat. Continue stirring and then reduce the heat to low, stirring constantly for 3 minutes. Remove the cake form the oven and then spoon half of the glaze over it. Let the glaze soak into the cake as it cools.

Lastly, remove the cake from the pan and spoon the remaining glaze over it. Slice and serve!
