  • 2/3 cup of sour cream
  • 8 ounces of walnuts, finely ground
  • 2 tbsp of unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup of half-and-half
  • ¼ cup of honey
  • 2 tbsp of orange zest
  • ¼ cup of sugar
  • 1 tsp of cinnamon
  • 3 egg whites
  • ½ tsp of vanilla extract
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2/3 cup of golden raisins

Potica Recipe

First of all, heat up your oven at 170 degrees F. Heat the milk in a small pot, then stir in 1 tablespoon of sugar and the yeast. Stir gently and then let it stand for 5 minutes. Take a large bowl and stir in the remaining 3 tablespoons of sugar, salt and the flour. Mix in the softened butter, sour cream as well as the yolk. Knead the dough for 10 minutes, until it softens. Let it rise for one hour after you set it aside.

Secondly, heat the half-and-half into a small pot. Pour in the cubed butter and the walnuts, stirring in the honey, orange zest, cinnamon, vanilla extract, 3 tablespoons of sugar and the egg yolk. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg whites with the remaining tablespoon of sugar and then fold it in the walnut mixture.

Roll out the dough, then scoop out the filling, leaving a 2 inch border on each side. Roll the dough, then pinch the seams and ends. Bake for 25 minutes on one side, and then rotate them, cooking for 20 additional minutes. Cool before slicing.
